A woman from South London has been left petrified of her dentist after failures to spot tooth decay.

The publication MyLondon, shared Anna’s story explaining “South Londoner Anna Krupska had a phobia of the dentist and had been visiting the Croydon dentist for check-ups regularly for some time.

“Anna, 41, had visited dentist Anna Wisniewska at TOP Medical Clinic, where she routinely paid for a £120 polish and clean and was reportedly told her teeth were in good condition. However, in September that year, the dentist told her she had extensive cavities which were a result of "eating fruit" over the summer, claims Anna.”

In a statement Anna said, “I was always scared of dentists so my motto is always prevention is better than cure. In order to prevent hours of treatment. But then the dentist found all these cavities which were really deep.

"She said I must have eaten a lot of fruit during the summer. I said, 'I floss, I brush and I look after my teeth and I do not have any fruit because of my digestive issues. Even if my teeth were decaying at this rate, I wouldn't have any left.’”

To fix Anna’s issues, she now requires a costly root canal treatment. According to Anna’s lawyer’s this could have been avoided if “reasonable care” had been taken by her dentist.

Anna added, "It's like a ticking bomb. All my life I've been trying to avoid the situation I’ve found myself in. I am petrified of the root canals which is the last attempt to save the tooth. But it is unavoidable. I don't want to think about it. If I think about the money especially, but also the whole terror of it all. The whole fact of going there, being in such a vulnerable position in the arm chair, having the lights in your eyes, the sounds and the smells. It's all quite traumatising.

"It had such a negative impact on sleep and caused me to lose a lot of confidence in myself. I’m also extremely anxious about the sensitivity of my teeth, especially in the cold where I can feel my mouth tingling. I've been told these teeth may eventually need to be extracted and if that happens will then need implant replacements for all of them.”

Lawyer Rebecca McVety, of the Dental Law Partnership, said: “The distress and pain our client has experienced was completely unnecessary. If the dentist had carried out adequate treatment in the first place, her problems could have been avoided.”

According to MyLondon the dentist has now paid “£10,000 in an out of court settlement. The dentist did not admit liability.”
