Following the recent escalations in the Middle East, Swedish toothbrush company Humble Brush (also retails in the UK) has decided to donate 100,000 eco-friendly toothbrushes to refugees.

The distribution is in collaboration with the organisation Assyrians Without Borders in the Nohadra area in Northern Iraq where hundreds of thousands of internal refugees have fled from Islamic State (ISIS). It is hoped that an opportunity for improved oral hygiene will contribute to an increase in the general health of those who fled.

“We understand that dental and oral health is not the first priority for refugees.

On the other hand, good oral hygiene contributes to better general health and is valuable in the long term. Many of the refugees in Nohadra live in small villages and do not have sufficient access to medicine or toiletries. We want to do what we can to help" says Noel, licensed dentist and founder of Humble Brush.

Toothbrushes are being distributed over the next few months along with necessities such as toiletries and pharmaceuticals. A local partner, Assyrian Aid Society Iraq, is handling the distribution.

“To hand out toothbrushes is one of many projects we run. Hundreds of thousands of refugees in recent years, have fled to the North-East of Iraq and have since become refugees in their own country. All supplies are needed, big and small" said Sisilya Rhawi, President of Assyrians without borders.
