Anthony Davies was among the first cohort of clinicians to have begun the ‘complete GDP course’ with IAS Academy. This new programme has been designed to help clinicians develop their skills and confidence to approach ortho-restorative cases in the most ethical, effective and biologically-stable way. It is delivered in three modules, consisting of interactive webinars, hands-on teaching, a post-course assignment and online mentoring, offering a total of 42 CPD hours. The training is presented by Ian Buckle, Chris Dakin and Neil Harris.

About what attracted him to the training, Anthony comments, “I had been intending to enrol on the Dawson course with Ian Buckle following good feedback from a friend and colleague, but these are not running in their previous format. When I saw/guessed from the location of the ‘complete GDP course’ that he was working with IAS Academy, I jumped at the chance to join the programme.

“I have seen increasing demand for treatment of worn dentitions and patients not wanting to be referred out, but in some cases I was not feeling confident to tackle these myself. I was therefore hoping to fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge.”

Reflecting on his experience of the programme so far, Anthony adds,

“So far, it has more than met my expectations. The format, content and teaching are all excellent. Ian, Chris and Neil are approachable and more than happy to help. It’s clear they demand high standards – Ian sets the tone and what is expected of delegates, but with a good balance of humour in the mix as well.”

Despite only having completed the first module, the teaching is already having an impact on Anthony’s dentistry. He says, “The ‘complete assessment’ is already being adopted and I am picking up on more than I did before. I also have more confidence to treat different cases.”

The ‘complete GDP course’ epitomises what IAS Academy is all about – enabling the GDP to take a comprehensive, holistic and long-term approach to treatment. Anthony comments on the IAS Academy philosophy, “I think the IAS way is simply fantastic. The patient-centred approach promoted through educating dentists and then the on-going support is second-to-none, in my experience. The ethos of minimal intervention, future planning and the ‘lifetime patient’ are spot on. I would certainly recommend the ‘complete GDP course’ – it’s a must for any conscientious and progressive general dentist’s PDP.”
