A world first

A North East dentist has become the first in the world to hold two of the industry’s highest honours.

Ken Harris, of Riveredge Cosmetic Dentistry, has been made a fellow of the Faculty of General Dental Practice, FGDP(UK) RCS(Eng), by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

As he already holds a fellowship in the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD), he has achieved a world first, becoming the only person to simultaneously hold both fellowships.

Ken’s new qualification, which recognises skill in general dental practice, was presented at the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons at London’s Lincoln’s Inn Fields – and took him 20 years to complete.

“I passed the initial examination, MFGDP(UK), in Manchester, in 1996,” said Ken.

“And, in order to gain the fellowship, my entire career as a dentist has been under scrutiny.

“But it is a superb qualification and, although I work largely in cosmetic dentistry, this is an acknowledgement that I am a real all-rounder, which is what I have been aiming for.”
