Over 30 lectures from key figures in the dental profession, a careers fair and exhibition, and a one to one CV clinic all feature in the newly published programme for the 2016 UCL/BDA Careers Day.

Taking place at Senate House in London on February 12, 2016, the event has something for everyone, from final year dental students to established practitioners who want to assess their options or take on new challenges. Delegates will gain five hours of CPD by attending the event.

The event begins with keynote presentations from senior dental academic and BDA president Professor Nairn Wilson and England’s new chief dental officer, Sara Hurley. This is followed by a packed programme of 30 minute lectures taking place across six rooms.

Lecture highlights and speakers include:

  • An update on where we are with dental contract reform, prototypes and dental commissioning guides - Henrik Overgaard-Nielsen, NHS General Dental Practitioner and chair of the BDA’s General Dental Practice Committee (GDPC).
  • Specialist training and the path to becoming a consultant – Nicholas Lewis, consultant in restorative dentistry, Eastman Dental Hospital.
  • Minor oral surgery in practice – David Cottam, oral surgery specialist and BDA GDPC vice-chair.
  • Getting into private practice – Dev Patel, specialist dental surgeon and principal teaching fellow at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute.
  • The importance of CPD and personal development plans – Janine Brooks, lead clinical tutor, Law and Ethics, BUOLD University of Bristol.
  • Top tips for getting your first dental job - Sami Stagnell, StR oral surgery Salisbury District General Hospital.
  • Pensions, taxation and managing personal finance - Daniel James, director of client services at Lloyd & White.
  • Developing your career and work/life balance – Reena Wadia StR in periodontology, Guy’s Hospital and clinical tutor at Barts and the London School of Dentistry.

 

The event also features presentations for those interested in particular career paths and opportunities such as volunteering, working abroad, militarydentistry and community and special care dentistry.
