Defence union appoints head of dental

03 April 2024

MDDUS, a UK-wide medical and dental defence specialist, has announced the appointment of Rachael Bell as head of dental as of April 2, 2024.

Rachael has been a key part of our team since 2009, initially joining as an adviser and taking on the role of interim head of dental in September 2023. Her appointment comes at a time when the dental sector is navigating complex regulatory reforms and facing unprecedented challenges.

In her new role, Rachael will be pivotal in MDDUS’s ongoing commitment to supporting its dental members. Her continued expertise will further its efforts not only to maintain the high level of support for existing members but also to work closely with stakeholders.

Upon taking up the post, Rachael shared her vision for the future. She said, “Having been with MDDUS both as a dentist since 1991 and as an adviser since 2009, I am delighted to be stepping into the role of Head of Dental at MDDUS. My priority is for the team to continue to uphold the highest standards of support for our members, through assistance with complaints, claims, and GDC investigations.”

Emma Parfitt, MDDUS director of professional services and general counsel, said, “Rachael steps into this leadership position following a very successful tenure as interim head of dental and she has extensive experience in both dental practice and as a dento-legal adviser.

“I am looking forward to continuing to collaborate with Rachael in her new role as we evolve and enhance our full range of services to meet the ever-changing important needs of our dental members.”
