A look into the importance of buying the right scanner.

X-rays are a vital tool in dentistry. They reveal problems in the teeth and surrounding bone that simply cannot be observed by the naked eye and often before patients experience any pain or discomfort. The earlier dental problems are identified, the easier they are to treat.

The beauty of digital technology, such as this, is that you can check the fundamental structure of the jaw and teeth quickly, easily and comfortably for the patient, in order to ascertain that you’re fine to proceed with whichever procedure is indicated on the treatment plan or the patient desires.

Harish Gupta, honorary associate clinical professor at Warwick Dentistry, explains why the X-Mind 3D is his system of choice.

"The thing that really won me over about the X-Mind 3D scanner was the ability to have a good scout mode, which has a particularly low radiation signature. The ability to change the sensor positions using the intuitive panel is excellent and the high-speed 3D scan is very patient friendly.

"Start-up of the whole system is very quick and requires no more than two to three minutes for initial set-up in the morning, rather than the usual time period of 10-15 minutes on most other set ups I have come across.

"The range of movement for the whole scan unit vertically is impressive, meaning that I can use it with the patient either standing or seated, and the speed of the scan is such that when done in standing mode, it’s quick enough to prevent any major movement problems.

The ability to create reports tailored to your individual needs is brilliant and the ease with which you can import relevant pictures into your report to highlight certain issues is fantastic.

"I really like the way that the panel has so many different user-friendly touch sensitive modes available. I particularly like the bitewing mode and, coupled with the relatively low radiation, this can be particularly useful for patients who cannot tolerate intraoral X-rays.

"I like the very easy to use child panoramic mode too, because this again reduces the radiation dose to the child. There are many more user modes available with this system and I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to use these in the future."

The X-Mind 3D gives users the benefit of 3D imaging, with more accurate clinical information and treatment planning tools. Designed with general dentistry, implants, orthodontics, and oral and maxillofacial surgery in mind, this system aims to help professionals in these disciplines to put together accurate treatment plans and improved diagnostics. The 3D image brings efficiency to implant planning and minor surgical procedures, giving you more accurate information regarding bone structure, fractures, impacted teeth, third molars, TMJ and abnormal anatomy.

The ClearTouch control panel makes operation of the unit simple and flat-panel sensors increase the image quality thanks to the large dynamic range, better contrast and lack of image distortion.

A key feature of the X-Mind 3D is its rigid four-point positioning system, which allows it to be easily adjusted. Self-locking temple supports ensure stable and accurate patient positioning. For ease of positioning, there is a hinged mirror, three positioning lights and panoramic sharp layer identification
with moving focal trough light. It works with patients either in standing or sitting.
A dedicated sensor ensures that the system automatically adjusts to the correct width and height of every patient.
