Mavis Phipps has recently been awarded the BDA’s highest honour, the fellowship of the association, for her outstanding services to both the BDA and the dental profession.

Having graduated from the Royal Dental School in 1968, Mavis worked in community dentistry for over 40 years. As an active member of the mid-Surrey section, she rose to president of the BDA southern counties branch in 2004 and is currently a vice-president.

Since becoming a trustee of the Benevolent Fund in 1988, she has served as secretary, vice-chairman and in 2010 took over as acting-chairman. She is now retiring after being a very important part of the fund for the past 23 years, including raising an incredible £400k through organising the Christmas raffle for 13 years.

After a career dedicated to helping advance the interests of both her colleagues and the field of dentistry, the BDA Benevolent Fund wishes Mavis every success in her future endeavours and is pleased to have been associated with such an outstanding practitioner throughout her career.
