Ten leading lights of the dental family are to be recognised with an award.

The awards are from the British Dental Association (BDA) Honours and Awards and will be formally presented at the BDA’s annual Honours and Awards evening in November.

Fellowship is to be conferred on John Renshaw, a former Chair of the BDA who has represented the organisation at local, national and international levels. Renshaw is a General Dental Practitioner from Scarborough.

Ann Rockey, the Deputy Director of the dental postgraduate department of Cardiff University, is recognised as a Distinguished Member of the Association.

Life Membership of the BDA has been awarded to four individuals. Dr Helen Bembridge is a salaried who has campaigned tirelessly to promote the care provided by salaried colleagues; Andrew Burns is a driving force behind the BDA’s Southern Counties Branch who has served the profession at both local and national levels; Chris Hayward has been an ambassador for the BDA both in the UK and internationally ; and Beth Liptrot was a salaried dentist with a particular interest in the development of special care dentistry and the education of younger colleagues who became President of the BDA’s CDS Group in 2007–08. After retirement, she continues to serve the profession through her voluntary work for the Dentists Health Support programme.
