A look ahead to this year’s Dentistry Show.

The Dentistry Show 2014 offers a combination of lectures, handson workshops, live clinical demonstrations and a trade exhibition, providing a diverse and exciting learning experience for all delegates.

In addition to the clinical programme, the event will present an array of opportunities in the area of business and practice management. Chaired by Lisa Riley, CEO at Centre For Dentistry, the dental business conference stream will cover a spectrum of relevant topics from business strategies to enhancing the patient service provided and compliance.

Of her role, Lisa comments: “I hope to bring something fresh and a bit different to the 2014 business conference. I would like to bring the focus back to the people involved and look at what makes for success. In the current difficult economic climate, it is easy for business owners to become consumed by short-term facts and figures, measuring their success by their productivity and profitability whilst unaware of slow decline. I think it is important to ensure the right team is capable of delivering excellence using sound business principles to create solid and sustainable enterprises over the long-term.”

The lecture programme will be delivered by leading professionals in their respective fields, each offering a variety of practical advice to help you run your practice as effectively and as successfully as possible.

Alexia Boje will be among the speakers on Friday, February 28, discussing the benefits of offering clinical hypnotherapy to patients who suffer from dental fear. She says: “There’s a great deal of misunderstanding about hypnosis but it is an incredible therapeutic tool – it’s completely safe, it’s non-invasive, and it gets rapid and effective results. A quarter of the UK population are affected by some kind of phobia or anxiety and outfitting your practice with the capacity to deal with these fears can be a great avenue for relationship building.”

Other sessions on the Friday will include a ‘Lunch and Learn’ with Nigel Reece on search engine optimisation (SEO), Professor Philip Newsome discussing the link between modern professional values and business success, and Emmet O’Neill panelling an open debate about the future of dentistry.

Saturday, March 1, will bring with it further opportunities to get your voice heard with the opening session looking at the practice team with Kyran Bracken, followed by another open debate session run by an ASPD panel (Association of Specialist Providers to Dentists). Amanda Maskery will be among the panel, she comments: “This session will provide the perfect opportunity for delegates to discuss topical issues and receive advice on how to avoid any issues or problems from arising. The floor will be open to delegates to voice their own personal concerns and share experiences with other like-minded professionals. I would expect us to cover aspects of the new dental contract coming in as of 2015, as well as the recent changes to the NHS system and the role of the CQC.”

Pat Langley and David Harman will then be among the speakers later in the day, considering the impact of compliance on profitability and the role of IT in the day-to-day running of a practice.

Aside from the main lecture programme, The Dentistry Show 2014 will host an extensive trade exhibition, where you can discover all the very latest technologies and services available on the market. Several dental organisations and societies will be amongst the trade stands on the professional hub, where you or any member of your team can visit to clarify queries about the regulations or to find out how you could advance in your career.

Brand new to 2014 are business skills workshops, to help ensure delegates are totally up-to-date with the latest trends and strategies in team building, management, social media, tax requirements and much more. Speakers will include the likes of Les Jones, Chris Barrow, Ashley Latter, Sheila Scott, Richard Collard, Kevin Rose and Andy McDougall.

Of course no event is complete without the chance to let your hair down and enjoy a glass of wine or two with old and new friends. The Heart Your Smile Party with ‘Circ de Sourire’ promises to be a great evening for all, giving you with the opportunity to socialise with your colleagues while raising donations for a worthy cause.
