National dental nursing conference

The 2016 National Dental Nursing Conference will be held on October 28-29, at the Blackpool Hilton.

The conference will start on Friday with the welcome lunch and meet the president, followed by the opening ceremony at which Eric Rooney, deputy chief dental officer, will be the keynote speaker. Saturday’s plenary session will be a GDC update with Matthew Hill, director of strategy at the GDC.

Other presentations include:

  • The Sound of Periodontitis – Professor Ian Needleman, professor of restorative dentistry and evidence based healthcare at UCL Eastman Dental Institute and honorary consultant in periodontology with UCLH.
  • The Future Role of Dental Nursing – John Darby, post graduate dental dean, Thames Valley and Wessex.
  • How Can Mentoring be Used to Support Dental Nurses’ Learning in the Workplace? followed by a mentoring workshop – Jane Dalgarno, president of the BADN.
  • Cyber Security: The dos and don’ts of online – cyber guru, Martin Ayrton.
  • Posting Online: a reminder of the GDC’s Standards – Dental Circle’s Amit Patel.
  • Identifying Oral Cancer: The role of the dental team – Amit Patel again!
  • CQC: Does it make a difference?  – CQC’s John Milne.
  • Novice to Expert Practice for Dental Nurses – Debbie Reed, chair of the BADN and head of centre for professional practice, University of Kent.
  • Paediatric Dentistry: Providing high quality care for children – Siobhan Barry, honorary consultant in paediatric dentistry, University of Manchester.

 

Attendees are free to enjoy the sights and sounds of Blackpool (and its famous Illuminations) on Friday night – or they can join president Jane Dalgarno, the executive committee of the BADN, and the staff at an informal dinner at local restaurant Twelve (www.twelve-restaurant.co.uk), with music by the Blue Pig Orchestra. 

Dental nurses (and other members of the dental team) may attend Friday, Saturday or both days.  Registration fees include lunch and refreshments, CPD certificate, conference handbook, opening/closing ceremonies and lecture programme. There are discounts for current BADN members, and for those registering early:

Friday only (booked before September 9, 2016):                   £35      (£40 to non-members)

Saturday only (booked before September 9, 2016):              £50      (£55 to non-members)

Friday and Saturday (booked before September 9, 2016):    £80      (£90 to non-members)

There is a special BADN bed and breakfast rate of £95 single or £105 twin/double at the Hilton, or delegates can choose to stay at one of Blackpool’s many other hotels.
