David Moles, professor of oral health services research and director of postgraduate education and research at Plymouth University Peninsula School of Dentistry, has been appointed deputy editor of the Community Dental Health journal in addition to his current role at the University of Plymouth

Community Dental Health publishes scientific articles, reviews, discussion papers, news items and editorials. It is of interest to dentists working in dental public health and to other professionals concerned with disease prevention, health service planning and health promotion throughout the world.

David qualified as a dentist at Guy’s Hospital and his early practising career was spent in the community dental service in London. He has two masters degrees (dental public health, with distinction, and medical statistics), the Diploma in Dental Public Health of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a PhD in epidemiology of oral cancer.

He has been a medical research council special training fellow in health services research and has held both lecturer and senior lecturer posts at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute.  He was the Eastman’s Director of Education Operations before relocating to the south west in April 2009, to take up the post of inaugural director of postgraduate education and research at Peninsula Dental School. He was awarded a personal chair, his name was added to specialist list in dental public health and he was appointed honorary consultant in dental public health.  He is also the Peninsula NIHR’s Local Research Network Group Leader for the oral and dental speciality.
