Newly appointed chief executive

Ian Brack has been confirmed as the new permanent chief executive and registrar of the General Dental Council (GDC).

He will formally take up the permanent post on Monday, May 16, following his time as an interim since January 11, 2016.

Commenting on the appointment, William Moyes, chair of the General Dental Council, said: 

“I am delighted to announce that after a competitive recruitment process, Ian Brack has been appointed on a permanent basis to the role of chief executive at the General Dental Council.

“Since he joined the GDC on an interim basis in January, Ian has brought a wealth of experience and skills to help the GDC become a high performing, efficient regulator that puts patient and public protection at the heart of everything that we do. On behalf of the council, I look forward to working with Ian to deliver what we have set out in ‘Patients, Professions, Partners and Performance’.”

Ian Brack, chief executive and registrar of the General Dental Council said: “I am extremely pleased to be joining the GDC on a permanent basis. I have been struck by the commitment, dedication and enthusiasm I have witnessed at the GDC and how hard staff work to ensure we ultimately achieve our mission of protecting patients. 

“I am committed to helping the GDC rebuild trust with patients, the professions we regulate and our partners. We will do this by achieving the ambitions set out in our three year road map, ‘Patients, Professions, Partners and Performance’. I am very much looking forward to working with colleagues to achieving this.”

Ian was previously interim chief executive at the Office for Legal Complaints. He oversaw significant internal change while enhancing relationships with key external stakeholders.

He also led the Olympic Lottery Distributor where he oversaw substantial grant expenditure, including the multi-million pound grant for the Paralympics.
