Patients give dentist full marks for gentleness

A dental practice in Surrey is using a survey in which it was rated excellent for gentleness by 100 per cent of respondents to reach out to those too scared to visit the dentist – nearly one in five people according to the British Dental Health Foundation.

100 per cent of the Time Dental patients surveyed gave the highest rating possible, while the level of skill demonstrated by clinical staff was rated excellent by 96 per cent of the group.

Principal dentist Taher Rashid said: “I hope these results will encourage anyone who is nervous about taking a trip to the dentist think again. 

“Anxiety can be a serious barrier to health and we need to help people overcome it. We take extra care to listen to concerns new patients have and, most importantly, always deliver pain free treatment.

“If you think you may need treatment, please don’t continue to suffer in silence on account of your anxiety as your health will only get worse – come in for a consultation.” 

One in ten people are estimated to suffer from extreme dental anxiety while the most common fears for visiting a dentist are having a tooth drilled (30 per cent) and having a local anaesthetic injection (28 per cent).

Modern dentistry can be pain free but many people avoid it for years, with around two per cent of the population having never visited the dentist.
