Henry Schein Dental is delighted to have been able to lend its support to a pioneering dental ambassador scheme for adults with learning disabilities.

This training programme has been conceived and provided by the Community Engagement Team at the Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (PDSE), part of Plymouth University.

The aim of the programme is to provide those with a learning disability with the understanding, awareness and confidence to help their peers to adopt better oral hygiene and make regular visits to the dentist. The first group from Plymouth People First who have learning disabilities have already completed the inaugural training programme, passing with flying colours, allowing them to become dental ambassadors to go on to provide peer teaching and support to others.

Robert Witton, director of PDSE, commented: “I would like to thank Henry Schein Dental for their kind donation of toothbrushes and paste to the programme. This donation will enable us to train another group of adults with learning disabilities to go on and act as dental ambassadors, providing peer teaching and support to other service users.”
