A prize fund worth £500 is being offered to dental students studying Special Care Dentistry in their penultimate year at Queen’s University, Belfast.

The prize is the result of a partnership between the British Dental Association (BDA) in Northern Ireland, sponsors First Trust Bank and the dental faculty at Queen’s University, Belfast which aims to recognise the distinct abilities required to manage the care of patients with special needs, such as those with some form of physical, medical or sensory impairment.

Fourth-year students are encouraged to compete for the prize by submitting a poster presentation considering how challenges presented in the care of a patient with special needs may be managed effectively.

Seamus Killough, President of the BDA Northern Ireland Branch, said:

“This is a huge year for the BDA Northern Ireland Branch as it is our 90th anniversary and we are delighted to work in partnership with First Trust Bank and Queen’s University to offer this prize fund to dental students.

“The BDA is committed to professional learning, particularly in areas which require different capabilities, and this prize is an innovative way to enable that to happen.”
