The UK’s dental regulator, the General Dental Council, has successfully prosecuted a man in Bristol for practising dentistry illegally, he pleaded guilty to three offences at Bristol Magistrates Court.

The case was brought after he unlawfully held himself out as being prepared to practise dentistry. He also used a description on a signage implying he is a registered dentist. Since he is not registered with the GDC these are criminal offences under the Dentists Act.

Interim chief executive and registrar of the GDC Alison White said: ‘The General Dental Council’s priority is to protect the public. One of the tools we use to do this is by taking action against individuals who practise illegally. You can check whether somebody is registered with us as a dental professional by logging on to our website www.gdc-uk.org or calling us on 0845 222 4141.’
