SDCEP implementation advice on phase-down of dental amalgam use - open consultation until April 15, 2018

29 March 2018
Volume 31 · Issue 6

The Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP) operates within NHS Education for Scotland and provides user-friendly, evidence based guidance on topics identified as priorities for oral health care.

SDCEP is currently developing advice for dentists to facilitate the implementation of Article 10(2) of Regulation (EU) 2017/852 on Mercury. Article 10(2) states than from July 1, 2018, dental amalgam shall not be used for dental treatment of deciduous teeth, children under 15 years old or pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless deemed strictly medically necessary.  A draft of the implementation advice is available now for open consultation, which will end on April 15, 2018. To view the consultation draft and instructions for how to provide feedback, please visit the SDCEP website

This message is being distributed widely to the dental profession in the UK, including via local dental networks and dental commissioners for NHS England. The SDCEP has asked that this message be shared with others who might be interested in this consultation.
