Sensodyne launches dual action toothpaste designed for sensitivity and gum problems

05 March 2019

Sensodyne, the number one dentist recommended brand for sensitive teeth, has unveiled a new specialist dual action toothpaste that targets both sensitive teeth and gum problems. The new toothpaste offers professionals a product which enables their patients to prioritise both problems at once.

Tooth sensitivity affects as many as one in three people and research indicates that 44 per cent of sufferers adjust their brushing technique to avoid sensitive areas, all of which can potentially lead to further oral health problems. With 50 per cent of those prone to sensitivity reporting concerns about their gum health, Sensodyne Sensitivity and Gum helps patients prioritise both conditions at once and also complements the work of dental and pharmacy professionals.

Containing stannous fluoride, Sensodyne Sensitivity and Gum occludes exposed dentine tubules whilst also promoting gum health through antimicrobial action. The antimicrobial action of stannous fluoride also helps to promote gum health through effective plaque control. Thanks to this dual action formulation, Sensodyne Sensitivity and Gum provides an option for patients experiencing these two common problems.

Soha Dattani, director of scientific and professional affairs at GSK, commented, “Sensitivity and gum health are two very important issues in oral care. We know that in many patients, the two problems can co-exist, with around 50 per cent of sensitivity sufferers globally also experiencing gum/gingival problems. We also know that patient compliance with appropriate twice daily oral care regime is low, therefore we believe that this is a very important launch for both patients and the dental profession. For dental professionals, it means that Sensodyne now provides them with a proven product that will address both these issues in a single, daily toothpaste. For patients its offers simplicity as by replacing their current twice daily standard toothpaste with Sensodyne Sensitivity and Gum, they don’t have to change their existing behaviour as this toothpaste becomes part of their current routine.”

Sensodyne Sensitivity and Gum will be available across all channels from March in Original and Whitening variants.
