Swimmers, cyclists and runners are being invited to sign up for the first ever Gensmile Dental Triathlon, which is raising money for Dentaid and Bridge2Aid.

The event takes place on Sunday, September 16 at Dorney Lake in Berkshire which hosted the 2012 Olympic rowing competitions. Competitors can enter the sprint triathlon individually or as part of a team of three, completing the 200m swim, 10k cycle ride and 2.5k run as a relay.

Part of the Human Race Season Finale, the dental triathlon will bring together teams from practices and the dental industry. There will be a dedicated marquee with food and goodie bags and an honour board. The race takes place in the boating lake and on closed roads and is designed to be ideal for newcomers to the sport. Wetsuits, bikes and cycle helmets can be hired and there is the option of entering a longer triathlon for those who prefer a tougher challenge. The event is being hosted by Gensmile Dental and has been sponsored by Henry Schein, Christie&Co and Dentsply Sirona.

Registration for individuals is £72 or £24 per person in a three-man relay team (a discount off the standard registration fee will be applied at checkout). Half of the registration money and all the proceeds from the event will go to dental charities Dentaid and Bridge2Aid to support their Together Dental joint fundraising partnership. The Together Dental appeal is enabling the charities to provide more people with safe, sustainable dental care in communities around the world where there is limited access to treatment.

Simon Turton, managing director of Gensmile Dental, said, “We are thrilled to be partnering with Dentaid and Bridge2Aid for this exciting event with the support of Henry Schein, Christie’s and Dentsply. Gensmile is all about partnering, teamwork and fun in an ethical framework and this event is a great example of this.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Gensmile Dental, the sponsors and the competitors for this dental triathlon which promises to be both challenging and achievable and also great fun,” said Dentaid CEO, Andy Evans.

Chief executive of Bridge2Aid Shaenna Loughnane added: “The Together Dental Fundraising campaign is a great way for people to support both charities and this event allows both the dental industry and practices to join together and make a massive difference to the lives of those who so desperately need our help.”
