Step out and raise awareness for mouth cancer

The 17th annual Mouth Cancer 10 KM Awareness Walk is back in Hyde Park, London on Saturday 24th September 2022.

The 17th annual Mouth Cancer 10 KM Awareness Walk is back in Hyde Park, London on Saturday 24th September 2022.

This will launch the Mouth Cancer 10 KM Awareness Walk from Home series, which runs between October 1 and November 30, 2022. So put the date in your diary and start thinking about how you would like to take part this year.

Both events involve walking 10 KM.  In Hyde Park this will be one 10 KM route.  If you choose to Walk from Home all you have to do is walk a total of 10 KM, as many times as you like, on your own or with your family and pets, around your own home, garden or local area!  This could be any combination such as 1 x 10 KM, 2 x 5 KM, 10 x 1 KM.  The route can be done in one go, (10 KM is approximately 12500 steps and takes about one and a half to two hours to complete), or over several days.  Ideally this is a walk, but if you wish to run, walk backwards, hop, skip etc that is fine.  Or simply sign up to both - the choice is yours!

It is a fantastic opportunity to open up the 10 KM walk to more people than ever before.  The Mouth Cancer 10 KM Awareness Walk is designed to increase awareness of mouth and all head and neck cancers.  It is also an opportunity to celebrate survivorship and raise funds to continue to support patients, carers and survivors coping with mouth cancer.

Dr Philip Lewis, dentist and Mouth Cancer Foundation president said, “We need the Dental Community to stride out and help raise awareness and funds for all mouth cancer patients and carers.  The Mouth Cancer 10 KM Awareness Walk is the only walk for mouth cancer anywhere in the world.   This is the walk for the dental profession and we’re hoping many dental practices up and down the country will sign up to take part and make this the largest walk ever.”
