The figures released annually by the British Dental Trade Association (BDTA) are compiled by Strategic Data Marketing, and show that water treatment solutions enjoyed year-on-year growth of more than 38 per cent during 2011 - 2012.

Dentisan is delighted with the figures from the BDTA, showing that Bioclear with their biofilm remover for Dental Unit Water Lines which is manufactured at their Derby-based headquarters, was the second largest growing new product launched to the profession in 2011, and the only one in the top 10 from the infection control sector.

Greater awareness of the problem of biofilm in dental unit water lines has been one of Dentisan’s key objectives over the last two years, and now knowledge amongst the profession is good. A recent survey showed that 98 per cent of dentists were aware of the problem of biofilm in relation to Dental Unit Water Line contamination.

Bob Newsome, commercial director at Dentisan is delighted at the penetration the product has managed to achieve in a relatively short time: “The problem of biofilm has been an issue in dentistry for many years, but developing a practical solution has eluded many manufacturers. Bioclear is the result of our collaboration with the University of Nottingham School of Biosciences and the product has received external validation for both its innovation and efficacy. Our challenge in the coming year is to ensure that dentists understand that to remove and control biofilm within acceptable limits requires consistent use of a proven and effective remedial treatment and anything less leaves them exposed to potential compliance shortfalls.”
