This year National Smile Month takes place between May 16 and June 16 and aims to bring together thousands of organisations and individuals to increase awareness of important oral health issues and make a significant difference to the well being of millions of people.
Registration only takes a couple of minutes and is completely free; by registering you will receive the amazing National Smile Month Registration Pack which includes everything you need to kick start your involvement in the campaign.
CEO of the Oral Health Foundation, Nigel Carter OBE, explained why it is important for everyone to get involved in the campaign.
Nigel said: “Dental and healthcare professionals are key to the continued success of National Smile Month; it amazes me to see how many people actively get involved in the campaign each year.
“Last year more than 3,000 organisations registered and, as this year sees the 40th birthday of National Smile Month, we want more of you than ever to get involved to make the campaign the biggest yet and help vital oral health messages reach even further.
“National Smile Month promotes three key messages at the heart of good oral health: brush your teeth last thing at night and at least one other time during the day with a fluoride toothpaste, cut down on how often you eat sugary foods and drinks and visit the dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.
“Every day, and with increasing urgency, we are confronted by incredibly heart breaking stories of the impact of poor oral health on all of us. Not least with appalling headlines such as 33,000 children having to be admitted to hospital for tooth extractions under general anaesthetic in the last year alone.
“We simply have to all come together to stop this and National Smile Month is a huge opportunity to do just this, by registering you can become part of a huge movement which will make a significant difference in the state of oral health in the UK.
“We need your help. Registering could not be simpler and without your support the campaign will never be able to have as much impact as it does.
“Hard working dental and healthcare professionals who go out into their local communities during National Smile Month and educate of the importance of good oral hygiene are the backbone of the whole campaign.”
